Ah, Paris! The City of Lights that dares to be all things to all people is on the bucket list of most travelers. Paris is one of the world’s greatest cities with more than its fair share of discoveries, surprises, crazy nights, beauty, art, light, and fabulous food. It’s a city where it’s great to wander, lose yourself, and taste adventure. From the cobble stone streets of Montmartre and the cradle of the Ile de la Cité to the centuries-old Louvre Museum and the futuristic Louis Vuitton Foundation, Paris is a city that invites its visitors to live life to its fullest. The French capital city is also home to dozens of luxury hotels (I’ve previously published a list with my 10 favorite luxury hotels in Paris, which you can read here). Visited by celebrities, presidents and royals, these fabulous hotels are home to Michelin starred restaurants, world-class spas and over-the-top suites where even Louis XIV would feel right at home. Here’s my selection of the top 10 most luxurious hotel suites in Paris (which all come with a jaw-dropping price tag, ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 USD per night).

10. ROYAL SUITE AT HOTEL PLAZA ATHENEE

Just steps away from shops like Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Saint Laurent, Hôtel Plaza Athénée is a hotspot for discerning travelers who love shopping. With four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two drawing rooms, an office and a separate kitchen, the hotel’s Royal Suite is the largest suite in Paris, perfect for celebrities and royalty or simply an experience you’ll treasure forever. Decorated in a magnificent classic style and full of antiques and original artworks, the serene masterpiece of a suite was created by world-renowned interior designer Marie-José Pommereau. The suite’s fifth floor view embraces the width of the entire hotel and gazes over avenue Montaigne and the Eiffel Tower beyond. If you’re looking for something smaller but just as unique, opt for the Haute Couture Suite, whose design honors the French capital’s love relation with Haute Cauture; a classical French palace ambience fills the living room, bedroom, dressing and bathroom with a sense of splendour, elaborate moldings and silver-leaf detail.

9. GRAND PALAIS SUITE AT LA RESERVE PARIS HOTEL & SPA

Like the emblematic monument after which it is named, the Grand Palais Suite embodies the art of living on a grand scale that is so very rare in Paris. As soon as guests enter the suite, they find themselves in a beautiful Parisian apartment from the Belle Epoque: an age when there was no stinting on square meters nor on volumes. In 1900, the Grand Palais had been built to magnify “French art” at the World’s Fair. Today, this suite also pays tribute to a proud French heritage, with its authentic Napoleon III furniture, its antiques lovingly collected over the years, as well as its historical or contemporary works bridging the centuries. The iconic Eiffel Tower may be admired from the suite’s balcony, as can the majestic glass roof of the Grand Palais. The Grand Palais Suite is composed of two generous lounge areas, two private bars, a wine cellar offering Grand Cru vintages, two bedrooms and an elegant Carrara marble bathroom.

8. L’APPARTEMENT PRINCE BONAPARTE AT SHANGRI-LA HOTEL PARIS

The extraordinary L’Appartement Prince Bonaparte, situated on the Shangri-La Paris Hotel’s second floor, was originally the private residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte and holds Monument Historique status. A shining example of the Directoire style, this expansive one-bedroom suite has 5 meters (16 feet) high ceilings with authentic crown mouldings and gilt work, Versailles-style parquet floors, period artwork and decor that seamlessly blends classic French late 18th century design with subtle Asian influences. Intimate balconies offer quaint views of Avenue d’Iéna and the Guimet Museum, while the abundantly spacious living room and separate dining area can comfortably seat up to 8 guests. The intricately designed bedroom is truly befitting of its former resident’s royal pedigree, bathed in varying shades of blue and gold with a large crystal chandelier at its center, draped fabric headboard and velvet curtains framing floor-to-ceiling windows, tied back with handmade tassels.

7. THE PENINSULA SUITE AT THE PENINSULA PARIS

The largest suite of the 5-star Peninsula Paris Hotel is an authentic Haussmannian residence. High ceilings with exquisite moldings, a fireplace, and large double-doored windows are all signature features of the elegance of traditional Parisian life. The sparkle of fine Baccarat chandeliers reflecting in the smooth black lacquer of a grand Yamaha piano, the rich silks and brocades created by Prelle, the trimmings of the House of Declercq, and the finesse of Tai Ping carpets steep the décor in tradition, yet harmoniously contrast with the modern curves of the large sofas and elegant mirrors. This spectacular and vastly spacious suite has the ability to adapt according to the number of its occupants. Ideally designed for two adults, each of whom has access to their own dedicated facilities and equipment, it also conveniently connects to two adjoining rooms to offer a large shared haven of tranquility. Last but not least, everything has been designed to ensure the safety and privacy of the hotel’s prestigious guests, which often include A-list celebrities.

6. SUITE COCO CHANEL AT THE RITZ PARIS

As a neighbor on the rue Cambon, Gabrielle Chanel decided one day in 1937 to take a suite at the Ritz Paris. She would stay for 34 years. She felt at ease amid the hotel’s luxury and elegance and gradually brought in her favorite furniture, such as Coromandel lacquered screens, gilded mirrors and a velvet banquette, until finally she had redecorated the whole space. “The Ritz is my home”, she would tell visitors who admired her rock crystal chandeliers and art collection. Today the famous Ritz Hotel on the Place Vendôme has a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite, which was designed in her honour by the late Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld. The suite’s color palette and furnishings reflect Coco Chanel’s love for Asian lacquer, gilded mirrors and the pairing of black with white. The Coco Chanel suite is one of 15 prestige suites at The Ritz that are named for the elite writers, artists, designers and nobility who have all been guests (or lived) at the hotel in the years since its opening in 1898.

5. MANDARIN PENTHOUSE SUITE AT MANDARIN ORIENTAL PARIS

Situated on the top floor of the Mandarin Oriental Paris Hotel, the Mandarin Penthouse Suite offers panoramic views of the city. Decorated in a palette of gold, white, beige and plum, the split-level suite enjoys an opulent 1930s feel, which is balanced by white interiors and double-height floor-to-ceiling windows that let the natural light flood in. With bespoke furnishings and artwork – such as a staircase fashioned from guilloche metal and an embroidered headboard featuring work by Man Ray – the overall effect is breathtaking. The outstanding suite includes a vast living room, dining room (complete with a bar), kitchen, bar, study and private gym, as well as a huge bedroom. The ensuite bathroom features gold cabochons on the floor, a steam room and bath with views that look out onto the Eiffel Tower. For those who plan on inviting a group of friends or family, the suite’s expansive terrace is a perfect space for a convivial affair. Guests can connect to the adjoining split-level Panoramic Suite and have the hotel’s entire top floor for themselves.

After a four year renovation, Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel reopened in 2017 on the Place De La Concorde, unveiling a fabulous transformation that has made it the most desirable address in Paris for discerning travelers. And while there are several stunning suites to choose from, such as the Suite Marie-Antoinette and Suite Louis XV, it are the two Karl Lagerfeld–designed Les Grands Appartements that are the hotel’s pièces de résistance. The Grands Appartements, located on the fourth floor, offer breathtaking views of Paris and its monuments, including the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Musée d’Orsay, and Place de la Concorde. The works of renowned fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, and well-established enthusiast of the eighteenth century, the suites were designed to interpret his personal vision of French chic and modernity.
